Unmechanical now available on Steam

Unmechanical is an award-winning 2.5D side-scroller which combines tricky puzzle solving, alluring exploration, and an engrossing atmosphere. The game had humble beginnings as a student project and since then both game and team has grown. Unmechanical focuses on accessible controls that makes it easy to pick up and play, and challenges you with a wide range of challenging puzzles.

On a bright and sunny day you’re spirited away by a network of coiled pipes into a mysterious underworld. You find yourself in a strange environment that pulsates from mechanic and organic machinery alike, and your journey to freedom begins. Flying freely through the odd and fantastic surroundings, a powerful tractor beam lets you pick up objects and interact with the world.

Your quest for freedom requires you to solve a great variety of puzzling challenges, and while it’s easy to pick up and play, later challenges may prove very difficult indeed. On your adventure you might also begin to understand what it all means–The underworld may be more than it seems, the fateful descent more than just chance, and you might not be entirely alone after all…

Find out more at the official website. The game can be bough on : Steam, GOG, GamersGate, Onlive

DM-Mariane, post # 1

This post is concerning my next level 😀

Story : Mariane is the name of a famous tough Necris female, a well known fighter who as won all of the fights in this desolated place… well at least, not the last one, it can’t goes like that forever… The place was call Mariane after her death in the honor of this great fighter.

Since it’s more convenient to show the dev and gather comments on a forum rather then my blog, I’ve made a dev thread on UOF that I intent to update once in a while.

This is what the level is all about :

– I’ll use simple meshing for the deco. I mean nice to look at but not to much meshes witch result in heavy polycount. Few houses, towers and simple architectures with arches here & there.
– I’ll use some of the Necris assets only. The one I found to be the nicer for my taste (I don’t like much of them but I found some to look awesome lol).
– I’ll use meshes that have the Turkish look & will apply a clean material so it contrast more with the dark rock material. Only the Belt area will use some damaged / burned material. I’ll use clean BSP floor too.
– I’ll use many blue trims, floor tiles to add more contrast to the scene which I really love.
– No saturation & a nice color mix of yellow to red for the surrounding with a blue tint for the shadows.
– No ugly tentacles nor green stuff nor green fog. Classic look all the way instead (orange – blue). The lower part of the fog is orange while the higher part is blue.
– For a change, I’ll go for a lava theme, something new for me 🙂

I don’t have any planned release date yet. At least I can say I started this level right after DM-Mégane was released and I work on it in my spare time.

THX for following and commenting my UOF thread 😉

Osman Tsjardiwal UDK Russian abandoned buildings project

Another UDK project by a very talented environment artist, Osman Tsjardiwal 😀 It look so realistic and the mood of this map is really great 🙂 From him :

This small environment is based on Russian abandoned buildings. I’ve tried to build a scene with specs that would be common in a real working environment and kept things optimized. The main focus on this piece was the lighting. The video below is a work-in-progress but it’s close to completion.

Zoltan Erdokovy various UDK prototypes

I’m impress by the quality of all those prototypes. They are all different, unique, look, sound and feel amazing. When you think that this guy as made everything all by himself and reach that kind of quality is really something 😀

I share all of what he released on Epic forums 🙂 Head over his blog.

Fire material showcase, a few scenes showing my fire material. I used the Razer Hydra to control the virtual camera.

Mallet Pinball, a game prototype which is a mix of pinball and air hockey.

Reflection pong, a minigame showing off the Razer Hydra – UDK integration.

Winter Volleyball, a game prototype inspired by the classic DOS game Arcade Volleyball.

From the author :

It’s a loooong time since i posted a map, so here it is. The map is sort of indust and metals I think it flows well and is pleasing to the eye. The map really is 1on1 but can handle more, I’ve spent sometime making the bots play well too. Hope you enjoy!
