Story / Histoire

A tournament to death in an abstract place, devoid of any organic life stimulates you? So, this tournament will take place in Aryth because it is the place of predilection to satisfy you.

Put the files into :

Local Drive:\Users\YourUsername\Documents\UnrealTournament\Saved\Paks\DownloadedPaks or
Local Drive:\UT4\UnrealTournament\UnrealTournament\Content\Paks

If this directory is not currently on your system, you can safely create it.

Details

This level is very different from my previous levels. Visually, it’s a very abstract and clean environment. Also, technically, there are only 2 lights in this level, a Skylight and a Directional light, that’s it! Very cool, don’t you think 🙂 My goal while building this thing, was to obtain clean visuals and also use a very small amount of static meshes.

Note, for all my levels I use Temporal AA since it offers the best visuals.

  1. I really like the design of this map. It seems like a blend of the fast-download mentality of the old UT3 gdawgg maps, but yet has the dynamic layout of a stock map. It’s a nice blend of simplicity and complexity. Looks great! Also, nice video!

  2. What an elegant and clean and sexy map you did, I played it with the “like a hurricane” bryan ferry song in background and I got a strange and good feeling thanks for this map steve!

      The weird thing about this map, is that is has the lowest download score on UTCC. I’m surprised about that because I truly think it’s an unique map and not because I’m the author but because it is. Anyway, even if only few players really enjoy it, it’s one of my best imho 🙂

  4. I played the update of this map a few times. Amazing what you did with the lighting and reflectance! I am all the time scared I will slide on my butt, the floor is so smooth 🙂 Funny also how the window fools me sometimes and I try to hit opponents on the other side 🙂
    It indeed is a unique map, and not appreciated how it should. Maybe because you need a lot of players because it is a big map.

      At least, falling and sliding on your butt won’t hurt you lol. I don’t know why it’s not played that much, I don’t see it as a big map but it might be the case, don’t know.

  5. 1.4 released. I’ve made those changes :

    – Add and tweaks some lift exits, bots now use all lifts much better. There is 7 lifts in all so it make a damn huge gameplay improvement.
    – Add few player start (pawns).
    – Switch the KEG and UDamage.
    – Enhance the overall architecture of the new UDamage area. It’s prettier and more dynamic.
    – Enhance the reflections all over the place.
    – Enhance the sky by adding subtle stars.
    – Fix some lifts that still had the allow decals checkbox enable. In my case, it must be disable.
    -Fix sound actor on all lifts so the sound come from the center of the platform instead of the side by default. Also add a invisible dynamic blocking volume under all lifts so players can’t stay under when the platform is going in reverse. Only exception is the lift that lead to the Lighting Gun which I couldn’t add one for various reasons.
    – Fix the point of view position before starting the match. For few seconds, players saw beneath the level floors which was something I didn’t know how to fix.
    – Made collisions changes to a massive bunch of static meshes.
    – Move the 2 Link Gun ammo from the higher platform closer to the weapon base.
    – Remade the preview screen.
    – Reduce the map size from 164 MB to 123 MB! A 25% reduction 😀
    – Tweak a huge amount of blocking volumes and add many more. This result in a layout screen not perfect but waaaaay more accurate than before! This step was very time consuming 😦
    – Tweak main Post Process.
    – Tweak some materials, textures assignments.
    – Others minors things I forgot…

    Did you know that the final version was released in august 2018 on Epic forums? Exactly 4 years later, you get the 1.4 version, funny coincidence 🙂 It took me 2 full day of work but it worth it 😀

  6. Je me disais bien que je l’avais déjà testée celle ci, j’ai lu le descriptif que après 🙂 très belle Map ! Plein de recoins, et les effets de lumière / brillance sont biens.

  7. I really love how stylish and modern this map looks with all the nice reflections, lighting and clever use of simple shapes. The game-play is superb with a good balance of open space and tight corridors and the “quad” damage outside is a nice risk vs reward idea. 10/10 👍
