Story / Histoire

The Kyron GrP., including several companies specializing in the manufacture of office equipment, heavy trucks and locomotives, has temporarily closed an assembly plant for a few weeks, the time to carry out some repairs. Some employees are taking advantage of this temporary closure to settle their differences in a rather… deadly way.

Le groupe Kyron, incluant plusieurs sociétés spécialisées en fabrication d’équipements de bureau, de camion lourd et de locomotive a fermé temporairement une usine d’assemblage pour quelques semaines, le temps d’effectuer quelques réparations. Certains employés profitent de cette fermeture provisoire pour régler leur différents d’une façon plutôt… mortelle.

Layout ; Do you know DM-1on1-Roboto? Well, that level belong to my long list of favorite UT2004 levels and I was very excited to do something similar using new assets in UT4.

Gameplay ; On the playability side, few small changes have been made to the pickups to adapt the gameplay to the mechanics of UT4. Although this level focuses on duel matches, it can accommodate a few more players. More than 6 in DM is pure carnage! In TDM, it is playable… I made few enhancements too. Per example, near the Sniper pickup, players can walk outside on the windows edge and then easily jump down to grab the armor, health or Stinger. It wasn’t easy to allow bots to be able to use these paths! Also, there is a new narrow passage, full of ammo near the Keg that permit to jump down near the Bio pickup. A fun little escape route with goodies. The Sniper area, which is more open now, bring new air fragging possibilities. The Belt platform is also easier to access in and out in multiple directions using UT4 mechanics like wall dodge and wall run.

Visuals ; It’s a old school style level. There was bricks, concrete textures, industrial static meshes and stuff like that unused on my SSD, I simply found a proper level to use them.

Note, for all my levels I use Temporal AA since it offers the best visuals.

  1. Played this map 1 on 1 was very fun. I think this will play much better with 3 to 4 players. This will up the speed of play. Beautiful map. Nice spread of weapons and power up’s. Can’t wait to get more time in with a few more players. Amazing how that changes the whole strategy of a map. Really dig the textures!

  2. Another of Steve’s great-looking levels, with competitive 1-on-1 gameplay. I especially like the opportunities for vertical combat, firing rockets down from the mid-level metal walkways, or up through the tight opening from the ground floor to the Keg O’ Health, surprising players that may be waiting there for it to spawn.

    Keep an eye on the bots to highlight some paths that you might not have thought about initially. The major powerups and weapons are spread evenly throughout the level, with the Shield Belt / Rocket Launcher and the Keg / Armor Vest on opposite ends, and the Flak Cannon in the middle.

    Although I prefer the Flak Cannon for most levels, the size of this level and the relatively open spaces (especially on the mid-level walkways) make the Rocket Launcher just as enjoyable for this one. All in all, much fun to be had here!
