Story / Histoire
Drones circulate in countless circuits but these are only passing and are not dangerous. Nevertheless, the enemy is! After capturing the flag, don’t look behind, the enemy will try to eliminate you. Don’t look up, the view will distract you, make you an easy target. Halfway, don’t look down, the height might make you dizzy. The only way to win is to go straight ahead! So, what are you waiting for?!
Des drones circulent dans d’innombrables circuits mais ceux-ci ne font que passer et ne sont pas dangereux. Néanmoins, l’ennemi l’est! Après avoir capturé le drapeau, ne regarde pas derrière, l’ennemi va tenter de t’éliminer. Ne regarde pas en haut, la vue va te distraire, te rendre une cible facile. À mi-chemin, ne regarde pas en dessous, la hauteur pourrait te donner le vertige. La seule façon de gagner est de foncer droit devant! Alors, t’attends quoi au juste?!

Layout ; I was inspired by CTF-Aquatica for the layout of the flag base and by CTF-Goliath for the big scale. Both awesome UT2004 levels 😀 Playing CTF-Ahead, I retrieve the same “feeling of grandeur” like in the old days playing CTF-Goliath and that, I like 🙂
Gameplay ; I could made the midfield like CTF-Aquatica, therefore, to bring something different, both bases are separated by a floating platform. It brings a very cool twist to gameplay. Also, even using the default jumpads, bots tend to fall very often. That was a major game breaker 😮 I’ve tweak my custom JumPads so now, they won’t fall and land on the platforms as they should. I optimise AI the more I could and also added defense point so it won’t be that easy to take the flag playing against bots 😛
Visuals ; This time around, for performance reasons, I use the minimum amount of meshes, making very simple meshing and choose to go with slick, clean visuals. No dirt, rust, scratches, stains, water leaks, water puddle, whatever stuff you can think of that can make the visuals very detailed and rich. Brief, simple and clean the more as possible. The overall look remains on material colors and lighting, not on complex meshing. The level use a new sci-fi pack I bought few months ago and it is a very small one (106 meshes in all) and use only 4 textures for all the meshes. It’s brilliantly conceive! Click here for the pack presentation. I’ve made a custom JumPad and a custom particle for the platform reactors.
This level took me around 2 weeks from scratch to craft both bases and the midfield floating platform. Then, another week to add more static meshes, decals, finish lighting, post processing, sounds, surrounding deco, etc. This level is a quick one and I was aiming to get very colorful environment which take place in a sci-fi city.
Note, for all my levels I use Temporal AA since it offers the best visuals.
