Story / Histoire

Following the failure of the device responsible for the water treatment system as well as the master air exchanger, the evacuation alert was triggered by the chief operator Ron Di Yzen in order to avoid the worst. After a few days, the health emergency team found Mr. Yzen body. In response to this sad incident, the nuclear plant was renamed Yzen in his memory, for his sacrifice. Caution! The plant remains functional momentarily since the interference makes the electronics non-viable and various mechanisms do not stop!

Suite au bris du dispositif responsable du système de traitement des eaux ainsi qu’à l’échangeur d’air principal, l’alerte d’évacuation fut déclenchée par le chef opérateur Ron Di Yzen afin d’éviter le pire. Après quelques jours, l’équipe d’urgence sanitaire retrouva la dépouille de monsieur Yzen. En réaction à ce triste incident, la centrale nucléaire fût renommée Yzen en sa mémoire, pour son sacrifice. Attention! La centrale reste provisoirement fonctionnelle puisque les interférences rendent l’électronique non viable et divers mécanismes ne s’arrêtent pas!

Details

Layout ; I was inspired by another awesome UT2004 level from ‘Slainchild’, DM-UCMP3-Glorian. A level with 3 floors and 4 distinct areas.

Gameplay ; On the playability side, it’s a simple level but still provide lots of paths and shooting opportunities at close or long range. I’ve spent a lot of time optimizing bots to behave as they should. Even at skilled level, they perform all lift jumps correctly and even cross the small path where 3 vials are located on a long ladder near the Sniper.

Visuals ; To create this level, I’ve bought this very versatile sci-fi pack. The demo level included in the pack have a high amount of really well made buildings and towers, all built from a massive quantity of individual static meshes (SM). Therefore, they are all made with Blueprint (BP), which I can’t import in the UT4 editor 😦 I had to recreate buildings for the infrastructure and towers and such for the deco by looking at the original to figure out how it was made. It’s wasn’t obvious… but even without the BP, I still have 891 individual SM to play with 😀 The original pack weight 4.08 GB while DM-Yzen weight only 415 MB after various optimizations.

The level feature the excellent custom music track Hydraulics (Mix 3) by John Maximilian Repka.

Note, for all my levels I use Temporal AA since it offers the best visuals.
