Details
Layout ; To create this level, I imported the pack called Modular SciFi Station. The pack doesn’t contain many static meshes, so with this rather limited selection, I opted for four buildings of varying sizes, each with its own unique look. Overall, the style of this level is reminiscent of DM-Picard. It’s crucial to make maximum use of rocks and other cover while moving.
Gameplay ; All valuable items are intentionally displayed outside the buildings, so watch out for the Sniper! Boots are required to reach the Redeemer.
Visuals ; I love the desert sci-fi genre, Dune-style, as evidenced by several of my previous levels. This pack is therefore perfect for this genre. A minimalist sky, a hilly terrain with craters, rocks, and abandoned futuristic buildings, that’s essentially what you can expect visually.
The level feature the awesome music track ‘The Course’ by Necto Ulin coming from his Unreal Tournament 99 remixes album.
Note, for all my levels I use Temporal AA since it offers the best visuals.

Great Map, Details are amazing and the places to hide are pretty sweet. Love the bulletproof windows. It is nice to see the weapon placement is well thought out. Shock and Sniper should be at different places, not close, which you have achieved.

The Moon goddess Selene drives her chariot across the heavens, watching over those who battle in her realm. We can imagine in some future time that there was an effort to terraform the Moon, but at this site something may have gone wrong in the attempt. The base here was surrendered to the elements, but later cleaned up and repurposed for battle to offer oblation for some perceived insolence to the goddess.
The abandoned moonbase, located in the center of a shallow crater, is bathed in the harsh light of the bright sun. It is a lonely place, with the only sounds coming from the power-generating equipment scattered around it. The design of the base with its geodesic domes and windows provides a unique aesthetic. The clean white interiors have been opened up to the sands of the desert, and the thick pitted windows provide just enough visual clues for players to assess what is going on behind them.
There are numerous obstructions to watch for – a half-closed door that provides no escape, vent tubes snaking throughout that stop the player in their tracks, and a maze of structural steelwork around the buildings trapping players and turning them into cannon fodder. Narrow corridors are a perfect opportunity to lay down some sludge or grenades for enemies following you, and I have fallen victim to this on more than one occasion. But it’s equally as enjoyable to shoot a rocket or two down those corridors to have them explode next to the player waiting at the other end.
Snipers will find this a particularly fulfilling map, as they can move far away from the base along the floor of the crater and pick off unwary players in the central area. Be aware of the temptation to leave the protection of the complex to go after these far-off snipers, lest you find yourself being chased by other players and being stuck between them all in no-man’s land. Being fully shielded or healthed up when going for the redeemer is a must due to likely sniper fire. It is however eminently satisfying to drive the the nuke all the way out into the floor of the crater to exact revenge on a sniper. There is a small rise next to the building that holds it where you can crouch to shoot the redeemer, and the lone building outside the perimeter of the main group of structures is also a good location for cover and launches.
Gameplay is fast and fun, and the multitude of power-ups spread out over the complex make for a great combination of both attack and survival modes. Players will find enough health and shields to pick up at the perimeter of the complex or inside of its buildings.
Although Steve may have expressed some doubts that this map would live up to the normal expectations of UT4 combat, our group’s experience has been quite the opposite – it has been a total blast to play, and just amazing to look at while doing so. This is yet another stellar undertaking from him for all to enjoy!
