Story / Histoire

I am the proud representative of my company, Triad! It’s my first fight for them. Weird… they promised me glorious battles and yet… where have all the other fighters gone? This place seems abandoned and grimy?!

Je suis le fier représentant de mon entreprise, Triad! C’est mon premier combat pour eux. Bizarre… ils m’ont promis de glorieux combats et pourtant… où sont passés tous les autres combatants? Cet endroit semble abandonné et crasseux?!

Details

Layout ; A simple layout in the vein of UT99 DM-Stalwart XL. You have the big central room with pillars and smaller areas that connect to it.

Gameplay ; My goal was to create a nice level first using an industrial theme and then making it simple and fun to play afterwards. I also wanted to put powerups (Bezerk + UDamage) inside small rooms accessible through animated doors. To enter and exit these rooms, shoot at the button on the wall. The doors will remain open for 3 seconds. The Belt can be taken by performing a simple lift jump. The lift at the bottom of the Redeemer has been added to spice up gameplay. It allows to land quickly on the Shock floor, on top of the large pillars in front of the Shock and on the floor above the Vest armor.

Visuals ; This level is a mix of assets. I reuse the static meshes from DM-Valas, the concrete materials from DM-Kyron GrP., the particle effects from DM-Y z e n, many decals and new ones from DM-Dystopia and also brand new grunge decals 😀

The level feature the awesome music track ‘FireBreath (UT99 redux)’ by Necto Ulin coming from his Unreal Tournament 99 remixes album.

Note, for all my levels I use Temporal AA since it offers the best visuals.

  2. Looks nice. Made with Unreal Engine? The style is rly good, Leveldesign is not an easy thing, but this looks different to all those same lookin stuff you see in games nowadays, well done.

  3. A quality map with a gritty industrial feel. Although designed for 4-6 players, it also plays very well with 3 players.

    Very glad to see Steve has added interactive buttons with doors, this adds a great new degree of complexity and enjoyment to the level. If you tend to shoot at the buttons from a distance, you may find that the door closes back up before you can turn around and leave the room. In that case, be sure to change to a weapon like the enforcer that won’t cause backsplash damage to activate the exit button (double damage flak shards hurt a lot lol).

    The pillars and vertical pipes coming through the floor in the central areas are good for providing cover from faraway snipers as well as protection in closeup battles. I also like how plenty of shielding is placed throughout the map.

    All in all, another great map of Steve’s, with some nice twists to maximize the variety of play. I hope he continues to provide maps for the community, as they are much appreciated.

  4. Another nice map of you Steve to add to my collection! Everytime you think it can’t get any better 🙂

    I like the geometry of the map and the look and feel of it. It’s a good map for 2-4 people I suppose. Not too big. An open space for the sniper and lighting gun, and a few little back rooms with goodies to collect: powerup, shield belts, damage amplifier, berserker, which all stand for a wild match.

    The place does not look abandoned to me, the heating is on from below 🙂
