Story / Histoire

Smart Shop started out as one of the most reputable online brands for women’s fashion accessories. However, profits were too low, and it had to diversify its catalog. Unfortunately, it went bankrupt. The store was left abandoned, which was a shame!

Au départ, Smart Shop était l’une des marques de commerce en ligne des plus réputée pour des accessoires de mode féminin. Toutefois, les bénéfices étant trop minces, elle a du diversifier son catalogue. Malheureusement, elle a fait faillite. L’endroit fut laissé à l’abandon, quel dommage!

Details

Layout ; I was tempted to create my very first post-apocalyptic environment. An urban location this time. The included demo level was a starting point for my inspiration.

Gameplay ; The layout is simple. In the lower part, the majority of weapons, 1 cartridge of each weapon then health. In the upper part, the Enforcer, the Sniper and the 2nd cartridge of each weapon and a pair of Jump Boots. Jump Boots are necessary to obtain the UDamage.

Visuals ; To create this urban-style level, I imported this new Post-Apocalyptic Urban City pack made by BAMESHI. The number of assets is limited, but I was able to combine the assets in this pack with other existing ones to create a unique level. BAMESHI is the same studio that is behind all the assets used for the S.M.C. levels.

Using various free online tools, I created the Smart logo to replace the BAMESHI logo displayed on billboards. It’s also displayed everywhere, and its appearance varies.

I also added the cool graffiti’s from this newly added Downtown Alley pack. To demonstrate the women’s fashion in the story, I also created all the women’s fashion images displayed on the different panels by combining various images from the amazing site Clean PNG and adding them to the textures included in the pack. All of these manipulations were done using free online tools.

In the end, the file is large, not because the textures are in native 4K UHD but because there is more than 340 textures in all. I reduce the quality of all textures to 2048 or 1024, even 512 instead of the default 4096 resolution or else the file would be like 3 GB 😮

Available in day and night editions. For the night edition, the sky displays stars, the exterior lighting is different, as are the fog and post-processing. The surrounding buildings also have illuminated windows.

The level feature the awesome music track ‘FireBreath’ by Necto Ulin coming from his Unreal Tournament 99 remixes album.

Note, for all my levels I use Temporal AA since it offers the best visuals.

Hi Steve, I have played your new map several times and especially the night edition, in this setting the lighting/neon really comes into its own, I mainly played instagib/arena and I liked this excellently, the elevator shafts are well used by the bots and myself, just a pity that you can’t go up on the other side of the map but that shouldn’t detract from the fun…overal a very nice map to play!

  8. Fun little map. It’s kind of like a smaller version of Cyberpunk in that it’s the urban setting. But Cyberpunk is SO big, I like the smaller environment of this for a quick match.

  9. Another stunning offering by Steve! The sheer amount of intricate detail on this level is amazing, from the large buildings all the way down to the smallest bottles and cans strewn about the urban hellscape. This same level of detail is present in both editions of the map, but the day edition really gives that eerie post-apocalyptic feel with the almost too-bright sun beaming down on an irradiated scene.

    Key to this map is mastery of the upper level. Not only for the additional ammo packs, but also extremely important to continuously visit these rooftops to root out any snipers, as this position provides an incredible vantage point to control the entire exterior portion of the map. All of the power-ups are exposed to likely sniper fire, so best to be sure the rooftops are clear before attempting to grab any of these items.

    Although the elevators make for a great way to get to the upper level quickly, don’t forget that just as important is the quick slide down through the rooftop ductwork when you need to get back down to the lower levels without being seen.

    Both maps provide a lot of fun and fast gameplay, and are highly recommended!

  10. This map comes in two.. a day and night version. As usual, greatly detailed, perfect lighting, even the night version. It offers a city fight, you have the impression of being in the middle of a big city, even though it is by far not as big as CyberPunk. But it still has a lot of different gameplay options: in the open, in the buildings, an broken window floor with Lightning gun and a rooftop for the snipers… although you won’t find a quiet camping spot there, players can come from a few directions.

  11. I love both versions of smart shop. I generally prefer dark settings but these are both equally fun and beautiful to the eye. Play is very fast which I enjoy and I really like the building decorum.

  13. so much details. i went exploring in this map checked out all the wonderful designs. art work, pictures all around. this is a masterpiece. gas cylinders as jump a pad i love it. too many things to see in this map, you need to do a tour to take it all in. exceptional level. game play is fantastic.
