Story / Histoire

Sector B is one of the restricted personnel areas, accessible only through two maintenance corridors currently on red alert. It houses consoles used to regulate the various fluids to be delivered to the various pumps in the main complex and the secondary pumps located on the ceiling of Sector B.

Secteur B, c’est l’un des secteurs réservé au personnel à accès restreint et accessible seulement par 2 corridors de maintenance présentement en alerte rouge. On y retrouve des consoles servant à la régulation des différents fluides à être acheminés aux diverses pompes du complexe principale et des secondaires localisées au plafond du Secteur B.

Details

Layout ; In DM-A v A, when creating the long corridor that connects the Grenade Launcher and the Lightning Gun, it inspired me to create this simple layout which also consists of a corridor but on 2 levels.

Gameplay ; The gameplay is extremely simple. A long corridor to put your shooting skills to good use or to simply fire like crazy and hit your target by pure luck. The only armor and the Sniper are in the center of the corridor, just to spice things up a bit.

Visuals ; This level uses the same assets as in DM-Engine Room. Many new materials were created to achieve a visual that stands out from DM-Engine Room. Additionally, I added new sounds for the consoles and the generators between consoles. I even added a brand new main audio track. I also created a new Jump Pad to replace the awful one included in the game. As a small touch, when the player is launched, steam appears for about 2 seconds.

Note, for all my levels I use Temporal AA since it offers the best visuals.

  2. Salut !! Map très stimulante ! Plutôt serrée et en longueur pour changer et sur deux niveau c’est vraiment délirant 🙂 cela promet quelques parties cocasses 😀

    Visuellement très stylée, j’adore l’ambiance et la colorimétrie. J’ai qu’une envie c’est de trouver une porte et d’explorer le reste du complexe. Du beau travail Steve une fois de plus.

When Steve first announced he was working on this map, I was initially a little worried that its long narrow layout would invite players to dominate from a distance with hitscan weapons, not allowing for close-in battles. However, after playing it several times, I have found that this has not been the case; the Rocket Launcher, Flak Cannon and Pulse Gun are equally effective here as the Sniper and Shock Rifles.

    The unique architecture of this map can be used to players’ advantage. When I hear an opponent charging up rockets, I slip behind one of the large vertical structural elements until the rockets have gone past. They are also large enough to use as cover to hide behind and then strike when another player unwittingly passes by.

    Key to winning this map is control of the upper level. Not only does it have the armor vest spawn location, but through the floor grating a player can see the action happening below and choose to either move to an advantageous location to shoot down into it or wait to jump down at just the right moment to get a killing blow. There is enough health on the upper level to keep you in good shape, with only the need for ammo replenishment a reason to return to the lower level.

    Not only is it a beautiful companion map the the original Engine Room level, but it plays well for duel as well as with three players, which in my opinion is the most enjoyable way to experience it. Another stellar map by Steve, and highly recommended!

  5. The map is like a ‘little’ sideroom of Engine Room. It has the same texture. It is a long narrow map, unlike many other maps. It also plays a bit different then other maps. It is a good 1-on-1, but with 3 players it has a better gameplay. With 2 players you end up running back and forth a lot.

    Maybe you could have a 1-on-1 version with teleports on each side to give more opportunities. And a DM version where the teleports are closed.
