Details

Delta is my first map for UT4 🙂 I was interested to play with the UE4 features and see what I could come up with. In the contrary to my previous UT3 maps, I didn’t had a layout in mind so my goal was to build something that look nice and fun to play. A simple FFA map if you like 🙂

Note, for all my levels I use Temporal AA since it offers the best visuals.

  2. Phenomenal meshing Stevelois! Your hard work shows through because the map looks absolutely beautiful! Great detail work, especially the piping, and the hero piece designs are also outstanding. The stone area really stood out since it isn’t seen much combined with Outpost 23 assets. As for layout, the minimap was a bit confusing at first looking like a big rectangle, but I figured that was probably because of the top and bottom areas stacked together. After a few runs it got easier to navigate and remember weapon placements, due to the remorable detail and hero pieces. It took me awhile to learn the paths, like I knew where I wanted to go but it was hard figuring out how to get there. But I’m sure that wouldn’t be a problem after I play the map more. Fantastic work!

  3. Played it a few times, I think it’s a fantastic DM map both in terms of visuals and in terms of gameplay, lots of verticality which is fun!

    1. Hi m8, THX for your support 😀

Until the game reach a stable phase, bad moments like this patch will sadly be repeating 😦 That’s the dev process, unfortunately. It took around 10 hours to make a complete build!

  4. Another map with that looks like Outpost 23…

Which is a good thing in this case 🙂

Any thoughts about putting this masterpiece on the UT marketplace?

  10. Delta has always been one of my favorite of Steve’s maps. The design/execution of the level is simply beautiful to behold, as well as so much fun to play. The Outpost 23 high-tech industrial textures with their lighter colors, along with the brightness of this map help to make it easier to see all of the intricate details (as well as the other players!) Ammo, health and shields are interspersed well throughout, so there is always something of benefit that players can obtain by traveling to every area of the map, leaving none of it unexplored.

There is a lot of vertical interplay between floors. As there are no jump boots available, effectively employing lift-jumps is key to strategy. Jumping with the lift from near the shield belt spawn location on the lowest level yields some of the best results, with landing spots on the topmost level including the keg o’ health and also the only wide open area of the map, the scene of many battles. Some players may enjoy sniping from the highest level down onto the lower levels; however, for such a large map it strikes the perfect balance between being open and having many areas that serve as cover to avoid this sniper fire.

Although designed for a larger number of players, this map also plays well with smaller groups. Even with only 3 players, there is a lot of enjoyable gameplay.

A pretty amazing outcome considering this was Steve’s first UT4 map!
